The SPR Pediatric Research Advocacy Corp, a new pilot program designed to provide advocacy training customized for pediatric research, is now accepting applications.  This pilot program augments SPR’s already active Advocacy Committee and representation on the Pediatric Policy Council (PPC), SPR’s primary advocacy vehicle.  Together these advocacy efforts advance our mission: creating a network of multi-disciplinary researchers to improve child health.

Up to five Members will be selected. Preferred candidates are individuals who demonstrate an interest in advocacy and can commit to sustained involvement in the SPR Advocacy Committee.

Selected participants will:

  • Learn from experienced advocacy leaders drawn from the Federation of Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), PPC, and the SPR Advocacy Committee.
  • Understand key aspects of effective advocacy letters, and opinion-editorial, blog and social media communications
  • Engage in two conference calls (February & March, 2018) to review key concepts; complete pre-call readings; participate in post-call opportunities to prepare SPR advocacy communications (tweets, blogs, etc.)
  • Attend SPR Pediatric Research Advocacy Day, tentatively scheduled for April 25, 2018, in Washington DC
  • Attend a morning advocacy session, congressional briefing, and conduct a minimum of 3 legislative visits to Capitol Hill during SPR Pediatric Research Advocacy Day
  • Conduct 3 visits to local district offices from Spring 2018 to Spring 2019
  • Participate in monthly SPR Advocacy Committee Calls and participate in committee projects for a one-year period as a provisional member.  Trainees will have the option to formally join the Committee in Summer 2019.
